Arsenal defender William Saliba looks set to go out on loan for another season with Ligue 1 side Marseille the most likely destination. It’s been a frustrating few years for the youngster who turned down lucrative offers in favour of joining the Gunners in 2019.
He remained on loan at Saint-Étienne before joining Arsenal, only to spend the first period of the 2020-21 season in the U23 team before being sent on loan to Nice for the remainder of the campaign.
The Athletic now report that Saliba is poised to join Marseille for the upcoming season, leaving him without a single professional appearance at Arsenal.
The Gunners impending capture of Brighton defender Ben White is suggested to be reasoning for Saliba’s third loan spell in as many years.
The 20-year-old centre-back is expected to ‘come straight into contention for a starting position’ at Marseille under coach Jorge Sampaoli and despite the impending move, The Athletic suggest that Saliba is still part of the clubs plans for the long-term.
