Serie A club AS Roma are close to agreeing a January loan deal for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The two clubs have been in talks in recent days but were struggling to reach a final agreement on the deal.
The sticking point is Roma’s offer for signing Maitland-Niles outright at the end of the season. Arsenal want the Serie A side to pay €15m for a permanent transfer in June, while Roma have offered €10m.
Reports had suggested that Arsenal were sticking to their guns, however it’s now suggested a deal is close. ESPN journalist James Olley writes that talks are progressing well between the two sides.
An agreement hasn’t been reached yet, but the deal is expected to be concluded in 24/48 hours. It’s also reported that the deal is likely to be a straight loan, without any option.
