Player Ratings: Manchester City 5-0 Arsenal

Arsenal were torn apart by Manchester City in a comprehensive 5-0 defeat with Granit Xhaka being sent off for a two-footed tackle. The Gunners were lacklustre all over the pitch and lacked any attacking spark while at the back, basic mistakes from Callum Chambers, Cedric Soares and Rob Holding cost them dearly.

Defence

Bernd Leno: Left at sea by his defenders on the opening goal, but made a great stop to deny Cancelo. Struggled to keep the scoreline respectable as City tested him from range and easily pulled the defence from side to side. Made a handful of decent stops but it was an impossible task. One of the few players to emerge with any credit at all.  6.0/10

Cedric Soares: All over the place as were the whole defence but his individual error led to a goal. A shocking display.  3.5/10

Rob Holding: So poor on the opening goal, leaving Gundogan with plenty of time to head the ball in. Tried to regain composure but the movement of the City forward line was too much for him to deal with. 4.5/10

Callum Chambers: Another who made the most basic mistakes and struggled to maintain any sense of defensive shape. 4.5/10

Sead Kolasinac: Tried to orchestrate the defence but his most telling contribution was a yellow card in the first half. 4.5/10

Kieran Tierney: Didn’t really do anything of note and seemed a bystander for large spells of the game as Arsenal tried to keep the scoreline respectable. 4.5/10

Midfield

Granit Xhaka: Looked under pressure from the outset as City had more quality in the centre of the pitch. Made things infinitely worse by getting sent off with a reckless challenge when he should have done much better, even if it wasn’t a red card. 2.0/10

Emile Smith Rowe: Tried his best to get Arsenal moving but he constantly lost the ball and was outmuscled by the City midfield.  5.0/10

Martin Odegaard: Started the game brightly by distributing the ball from deep and tried to play some neat balls to break the lines, but after the red card, he struggled to get forward at all as Arsenal looked for damage limitation. 5.5/10

Attack

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Cut a lonely and forlorn figure up front, struggling to create anything of note and lacking any kind of service. 5.0/10

Bukayo Saka: Tried to push forward when he could but was constantly cut off by a savvy City side that controlled the game and the possession. 5.0/10
