Player Ratings: Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea

Arsenal slumped to their second straight defeat, losing 2-0 to Chelsea in a game where they failed to ever get going. Poor defending and a lack of cutting edge in the final third of the pitch cost them dearly while Kieran Tierney and Gabriel Martinelli became the latest players to suffer injuries.

Bernd Leno: Didn’t really stand a chance on either goal as his defence left him open. Made a great reaction save to deny Lukaku what looked like a certain second goal.  6.0/10

Cedric Soares: Offered nothing going forward and precious little at the back. Looked better in the second ’45 but still didn’t offer any threat in the opposition half.  5.0/10

Rob Holding: His sole first half contribution was a yellow card for a poor challenge on Alonso. Better in the second and had a free header that went just wide. Average. 5.5/10

Pablo Mari: So weak on Lukaku’s run for the goal, easily going to ground. Had to at least stay with his man and was generally brushed aside in the opening ’45. Looked marginally better in the second half. Disappointing. 4.5/10

Kieran Tierney: Excellent early deliveries into the box but he was at clear fault on the second goal and had to do better. Had to cover for Mari at times as he struggled to contain Lukaku and was eventually subbed off through injury. Poor. 5.0/10

Sambi Lokonga: Some decent early runs and his forward passes were decent as he tried to get the team moving forward. Encouraging.  6.0/10

Granit Xhaka: An ok performance, nothing of note in the first half and more of the same in the second. 6.0/10

Emile Smith Rowe: Good early effort on goal and once again one of the few bright sparks with his runs into the box and general creative play. 6.5/10

Gabriel Martinelli: Cut a very lonely figure and had few chances of note throughout the game. Eventually went off through injury. 5.0/10

Nicolas Pepe: Seemed anonymous for large periods in the opening half and was a ghost for most of the second half as well.  5.0/10

Bukayo Saka: One of the few highlights of  the first half, trying to create chances with his smart runs. Tested Mendy early on in the second half with a decent effort from range. 6.0/10

Nuno Tavares: A few encouraging signs with his runs forward. 5.5/10

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: First touch and a shot on target but few chances thereafter. 6.0/10

Folarin Balogun: N/A
