Arsenal have officially confirmed that Lucas Torreira has joined Fiorentina on loan for the remainder of the season. The Uruguayan has struggled to find a place in Mikel Arteta’s lineup and has returned to Italy.
Torreira is expected to spend the season on loan with Fiorentina retaining an option to sign him outright for a reported €15m. The club confirmed the move via a statement on their official website:
Midfielder Lucas Torreira has joined Serie A side Fiorentina on loan for the 2021/22 season.
The Uruguayan international who was part of his national team’s Copa America squad this summer, spent last season on loan with Atletico Madrid, making 19 appearances in their La Liga winning campaign.
Torreira has made 89 appearances for us since joining from Serie A side Sampdoria ahead of the 2018/19 season and was part of our FA Cup Final match-winning squad in 2020. His goal in the 4-2 north London derby win at Emirates Stadium in November 2018 was a notable highlight during his first season with us.
Everyone at Arsenal wishes Lucas all the best in Italy with Fiorentina this season.
The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
