Multiple reports from Portugal suggest that Benfica full-back Nuno Tavares is close to signing for Arsenal. The 21-year-old has been closely linked with a move to North London for the last week but a transfer looks to be close to completion.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola report that The Gunners are just a step away from signing Tavares in a deal worth €8m and a further €2 million in goal-dependent bonuses.
Brighton, Southampton and Napoli were also in the running for the Portuguese under-21 international but he prefers a move to Arsenal.
A Bola suggest that the player was closely scouted by the Gunners before finally being signed off on by manager Mikel Arteta. The full-back is seen as an alternative to Kieran Tierney who missed a large portion of the season through injury.
Along with A Bola, Record report that personal terms have already been reached between the player and club and negotiations between Arsenal and Benfica are complete.
ESPN report on similar lines, but suggest that a deal may be completed for less than the €12m asking price as the player is keen to play in the Premier League.
