Marsille hit with transfer ban

French side Marseille have been hit with a transfer ban which could have an impact for on-loan Arsenal players. The Ligue 1 club have been hit with the ban over the transfer of Pape Gueye from Watford.

Fifa conducted a probe into the deal after Watford filed a legal complaint over the deal. A verdict yesterday banned Gueye from playing for four months and handed a €2.5m fine to the French side.

Marsille have also been banned from conducting transfers for the next two transfer windows. The potential ban could have an impact on the permanent signing of Mateo Guendouzi, on loan from the Gunners.

William Saliba was thought to be a target for Marseille after impressing impressing during his loan spell. The youngster has played more minutes than any other OM player and is a core part of the defensive.

Marseille are expected to appeal the ban which allow them a three to six months reprieve which could allow deals to be conducted in the summer.
