New Arsenal signing Albert Sambi Lokonga explained why he didn’t hesitate in joining the Gunners this summer. The 21-year-old was unveiled by the club earlier today and has signed a four-year contract with an option for another.
Speaking in his first interview with Arsenal.com, the youngster explained why joining the Gunners was the right move him:
“I’m really happy because it was very long. So yes, I’m happy to be close to the end. It’s a big move because i’ve been playing for Anderlecht for 10 years, so it’s going to be my first big move to another country.
“Playing in the Premier League? Yes, it’s a big step but i feel confident; In the football world you have to feel confident about yourself. I’m looking to play in this league and I can’t wait to start the league.
“Arsenal’s interest? I heard about this, I think two games I had a hand with the president of the club. He told me about the interest of Arsenal as did my lawyer. I didn’t hesitate one second, I told them that yes, excuse me, but I will go there!”
“It was difficult because everyone was congratulating me, I was at home and i was telling them the deal is not done yet! I was training, I was calm and I have to thank the coach and Edu because they really wanted me to be here.
“Mikel and Edu? They want a lot of young players in the team and Arsenal has a good academy and in Anderlecht we also have a good academy, a lot of young players with a lot of talent. For me, it’s not gonna change a lot.
“Thierry Henry? Yeah, it was a really great experience because in the few times I was with him on the pitch, I learned a lot.
“I prefer people to judge me, I don’t like to speak about myself. I can’t wait to be at the stadium, to be with my teammates, to be at the Emirates, I can’t wait.
“I can play as a six or as a box-to-box, but people say I’m better as a six.”
