Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has has sought to reassure fans after suffering an injury while on international duty with Brazil. The 23-year-old has been forced to pull out of Brazil’s squad for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but assured fans that the injury is ‘nothing serious’.
Gabriel was revealed to be part of Andre Jardine’s 18-man party last month but complained of discomfort in his right knee following the teams first training session in Sao Paulo yesterday.
Initial hopes were that the defender would recover in time for the start of the Games which begin on July 23 as the Brazil medical team placed him on a special fitness training plan.
Scans on Monday have revealed that Gabriel is suffering with tendentious and will continue his rehabilitation in North London
However, scans on Monday revealed that Gabriel was suffering with tendentious and the centre-back will continue his rehabilitation with Arsenal when he returns to North London.
Posting on Instagram, Gabriel explained the situation in a brief post:
“Unfortunately I won’t be able to fulfil my dream due to an injury, nothing serious. I will not be able to defend my country’s colours at the Olympics.
“I will be, from a distance, rooting for the national team and for my team-mates. God knows everything.”
There’s optimism that the defender will be back in time for the start of the new Premier League season, however the injury may yet have an impact on Arsenal’s transfer plans this summer.
