Di Marzio: ‘Conte wouldn’t accept Arsenal’

Italian football journalist Gianluca di Marzio doesn’t believe Antonio Conte would entertain the idea of joining Arsenal. The Italian coach has been linked with a switch to North London, if current coach Mikel Arteta doesn’t improve results.

ESPN journalist Gabriele Marcotti recently reported according to what he was told, Arsenal and Conte had in fact been in touch.

Speaking on the latest edition of ESPN FC, Marcotti relayed the information he had received:

There’s no question in my mind – in fact, several people have suggested to me that Arsenal have been approached by intermediaries, just in case they decide to dispatch Arteta.

“Equally, from what I was told, is that Arsenal aren’t entertaining that notion for the time being and they’ve got these two games coming up I think against Norwich and Burnley. And they’ll see where they are then.

“But there’s no question that of course, that Conte wants to get back in the game, and the Premier League has a ton of appeal, especially a big London club like Arsenal.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Di Marzio offered his own thoughts on the rumours linking Conte with the Gunners:

“I think Antonio Conte wants to win so will only accept a winning project, so he wouldn’t consider Arsenal because they’re not immediately strong to win something, that’s why he said no to Tottenham.

I think Antonio will only consider the call from Manchester United, if it arrived, although there’s no contacts at all. I think Conte would like that move.”
