Arsenal are looking to make significant signings and sales in the weeks ahead as Mikel Arteta looks to rebuild his team. The Athletic report that first on the list of priorities is to renew Emile Smith Rowe’s existing deal with the aim of securing him to a long-term contract.
The youngster has emerged from the youth setup as a candidate for the No.10 role and the club are looking to make him feel valued in the face of sustained interest from Aston Villa.
Mike Arteta also holds Martin Odegaard, who impressed in a brief loan spell, in high regard, however the club are well aware that the ball is firmly in Real Madrid’s court, however will be ready to pounce, if Odegaard becomes available.
Houssem Aouar remains an option following sustained interest in him last summer, and he ‘represents an affordable option’ given Lyon’s current financial needs.
The Gunners continue to look to a number of other positions this summer, namely a goalkeeper, a possible right-back, centre-back, left-back, two central midfielders as well as a second playmaker.
Some of those roles will be filled, given the expected arrivals of Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga, as well as the recently arrived Nuno Tavares.
Arsenal still have hopes of signing both White and Aaron Ramsdale with the Gunners the most interested in the young centre-back with talks said to be at a more advanced stage,.
Alongside, Arsenal would be prepared to ‘push the boat out’ for Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli, even though they know it would be a tough move to complete.
In terms of departures, both Granit Xhaka and Hector Bellerin are expected to leave, but none of the potential suitors have come close to Arsenal’s asking prices.
Potential outgoings could include Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson whose futures at Arsenal all look in doubt.
