Arsenal are still interested in both Martin Odegaard and Houssem Aouar but James Maddison is not a target. The club were rumoured to be pursuing a move for the Leicester City midfielder, but a new report suggests that they will turn their attentions elsewhere.
The Athletic report that Arsenal are still closely linked with a move for Martin Odegaard this summer, despite him returning to Real Madrid.
According to the report, the young Norwegian wants first team football and this isn’t a guarantee under new Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.
It’s suggested that ‘Odegaard should quickly get an indication of where he ranks in Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order.’ If he doesn’t feature, ‘Arsenal are clear that they are prepared to do what is necessary to sign him’ however ‘it will require him to push for the move.’
Also in midfield, Arsenal have made enquiries to Lyon about Aouar, specifically with the intention of taking him on loan for the new season.
The French midfielder is valued at £25m and The Athletic suggest he ‘represents an excellent market opportunity’ for Arsenal.
Links with James Maddison are reportedly not at an advanced stage as The Athletic report that ‘while the player does have admirers within the club, he is not someone Arsenal are seriously pursuing at this time.’
Finally, the collapse of the move for Aaron Ramsdale could lead Arsenal to Barcelona backup goalkeeper Neto.
The 32-year-old is now a target for the Gunners and they could even secure him on loan to begin with, given he has two years left on his Barca deal.
