Arsenal request Spurs postponement

Arsenal have made a request to the Premier League to postpone their match against Spurs on Sunday due to coronavirus cases and injuries. The Gunners have a massively depleted squad and are down to just a handful of first team midfielders.

Arsenal will be without Granit Xhaka following his red card in the draw against Liverpool last night. The club are also without Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey, both on duty at the AFCON. Meanwhile. Ainsley Maitland-Niles has gone on loan to Roma, leaving just Sambi Lokonga available from the first team.

The Daily Mail now report that the Gunners have made an official request to have this weekends match postponed. The Mail also report that Spurs are ‘furious’ as the request comes less than 48 hours before kick off.

A statement from Arsenal reads: “We have reluctantly taken this step but we have many players currently unavailable across our squad as a result of Covid, injuries and players away with their countries at AFCON.”

The FA are due to respond to the request tomorrow.
