Arsenal are the ‘only priority’ for Belgian midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Gunners are looking to reinforce their midfield this summer with boss Mikel Arteta looking to complete an overhaul of his current squad and a new No.10 is high on the list of priorities.
Reports of a deal for Lokonga have surfaced in both the English and Belgian media with the suggestion being that Arsenal are close to completing a signing.
Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news and suggested that the player himself is looking to join the Gunners, despite having offers from both Atalanta and Napoli.
“Talks between Arsenal and Anderlecht are true, and Arsenal and the player’s agents are true. Lokonga is 100% open to joining Arsenal. He would love to join Arsenal. He told Napoli and Atalanta ‘my priority is Arsenal’. Let’s see if Arsenal will complete a deal in the next days.”
Arsenal will need to agree a fee with Anderlecht, given that their initial off of £13m was rejected with the Belgian side looking for a figure close to £17m.
